KAZUO SHIRAGA

KAZUO SHIRAGA, Japanese abstract painter. He formed the "0-kai" in 1952 with MURAKAMI SABURO, KANAYAMA AKIRA and TANAKA ATSUKO, and in 1955 joined the avant-garde art group "Gutai Art Association," a group of artists who led the postwar Japanese avant-garde art movement, together with MURAKAMI and others, and is known as a core member of the Gutai Art Association. His works, created using an unprecedented and unique method of foot painting, have been highly acclaimed overseas as well.
